Fauré’s awe-inspiring Requiem, plus music of Haydn, Elgar, Lauridsen and more. Join Malaspina Choir and friends at our final concert of the 2023 - 2024 season. Immerse yourself in an afternoon of dazzling and lustrous choral works, featuring Fauré’s Requiem - his iconic work loved by singers and audiences alike. Other luminous works include the Adam and Eve duet and chorus from Haydn’s Creation; Rutter’s ‘Arise, Shine’ for choir and organ; and ‘O Nata Lux’ (O Light of Light) by Lauridsen. Fiona Blackburn leads Malaspina Choir with guests: Jennifer Turner, soprano and Nathan McDonald, baritone; organist Jenny Vincent; and the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra (Karl Rainer, Concertmaster). The Island Bel Canto Singers, with collaborative pianist, Stefanie Unger, are special guests. Their exciting set includes 'Tango to Evora', by Loreena McKennitt and a piece for women's choir, two pianists and percussion entitled 'Moon Goddess'. The concert concludes with 100 voices singing ‘Lux Aeterna’ (Light Eternal) - a glorious choral version of Elgar’s most famous ‘Nimrod’ melody from his Enigma Variations.
