Saturday, September 21 – 7:30pm HEADLINER – ERNIE WATTS @ Port Theatre Ernie Watts is an American jazz and rhythm and blues saxophonist who plays soprano, alto, and tenor saxophone. He has worked with Charlie Haden’s Quartet West and toured with the Rolling Stones. On Frank Zappa’s album The Grand Wazoo, Ernie Watts played the “Mystery Horn”, a straight-necked C melody saxophone. He also played the notable saxophone riff on The One You Love by Glenn Frey. Ernie Watts has won two Grammy Awards as an instrumentalist. Sunday, September 22 – 4:00pm GALA – LAILA BIALI @ PORT THEATRE Born in Vancouver, she began playing piano as a child. Now living in Toronto, she’s established herself as one of Canadian jazz’s brightest young stars – and with almost two decades into a successful career. In 2017 Laila appeared as guest host for Tonic, a jazz program on CBC Radio 2, and then became the regular host for Saturday Night Jazz.
