Nanaimo Culture & Heritage Awards

Please join us to celebrate the best of Nanaimo’s culture and heritage sector while enjoying an evening of FREE entertainment by Nanaimo’s very own local talent.

PRESENTED BY THE PORT THEATRE SOCIETY

These awards have been an important program for community building and partnerships since 1998. They bring awareness to the breadth and variety of the cultural activity in our community by celebrating the cultural accomplishments of individuals and organizations and pride in our community. This program also encourages and gives inspiration to aspiring young artists and future cultural leaders of our community.

You are invited to join us to celebrate with the following recipients in a fun filled evening full of energetic entertainment.

AWARD RECIPIENTS:

Mr. Dean Chadwick – Honour in Culture

The Honour in Culture Award honours groups, corporations or individuals that are known for their dedication and support of the development of the cultural fabric of Nanaimo. Previous recipients include Thora Howell, The Nanaimo Theatre Group, Arts Alive Summer School of the Fine Arts, Sandra Thomson, Ian Niamath, Arlene Blundell and William Good.

Mr. Nico Rhodes – Emerging Cultural Leader

The Emerging Cultural Leader Award recognizes up-and-coming Nanaimo-based cultural leaders. The award recognizes that a thriving Nanaimo cultural community includes leaders who choose to live and contribute to the cultural life of Nanaimo. Previous recipients include Shayd Johnson, Amanda Scott and Alyssa Glassford.

Nanaimo Historical Society – Honour in Heritage

The Honour in Heritage Award recognizes individuals, groups and corporations who demonstrate outstanding support, advocacy, promotion or interpretation of Nanaimo's heritage and history. This is a new award category which was created in 2018 and presented to Jan Peterson.
